About us
Janice Pelzel is the
Founder and Executive
Director of the Friesian
Rescue Society.
It all started with a
lifelong dream, a
beautiful gesture
and a priceless
gift.
My first Friesian Horse was an anniversary gift.  My husband and I drove
to Black Sterling Friesians in Sonoma, California and looked at various
horses for sale.  It took only a second for me to fall in love with a first
premiere gelding and marathon driving champion named Jouke.  I am not
sure if he chose me as much as I chose him, but from that day forward we
established an unbreakable bond based on unconditional trust and love.
I established The Friesian Rescue Society in January of 2007 as a way to
guarantee a permanent home for horses like Jouke who can not be cared
for by their current owners.  With the help of some wonderful Federal ,
State and Private organizations, the Friesian Horse Society is currently
purchasing 120 acres of land in Livermore, California to provide a place
for Friesian horses that are currently in need of placement.  It is the very
least that I can do for having the privilege of sharing my life with such a
magnificent horse.
